Questions and Answers
Do I have to pay for this software?
No! It is free software, and you can download it and use it for free. If you have a fast Internet connection and a DVD/CD writer I suggest you simply download the software and write it to your own DVD or CD. You will probably find the net-install method easiest. You almost certainly do not need to download the DVD or CD ISOs yourself.
If however, you do not have a fast Internet connection, or your downloads are limited, then you might want to buy one of these sets of DVDs. And if you are a beginner then you may find these DVDs easier than a net-install.
Can I buy them elsewhere?
Yes. The Debian site has a list of official vendors, and I'm sure you can find some more on places like ebay or DistroWatch.
Alternatively you may well find a Debian DVD on the front cover of a Linux magazine
Do you make a profit?
It all depends on how many I sell - I might make a small profit, or I might make a small loss. My aim is to allow non-broadband users convenient, cheap access to Debian software.
Is it legal?
Yes, this is free software. You are legally entitled (indeed encouraged) to redistribute this software.
What can I do with this software?
Anything you want to, within reason!
- Install it on as many machines as you like.
- Copy the DVD and give it to your friends.
- Copy the DVD and sell it.
Can I trust you?
Yes (well, I would say that wouldn't I?) As evidence of my good intentions, you can have a look at the Debian packages I maintain.
Can I have a copy on a specific brand of blank DVD?
Yes, but you'll need to post me 8 of your blank discs. I'll reduce my price accordingly. I'll take good care of your discs but you should be aware that you send them at your own risk.
Will you have to wait for my cheque to clear?
No, I'll trust you!
Can you supply me with other DVDs, such as old-stable or Ubuntu?
Yes, please contact me for details.
